Over the years the way we experience church has changed. Some worship services are very traditional and some are more modern or contemporary. Some churches offer both types of service so they can minister to both kinds of worshiper.

This spin off of the Mac vs PC commercials comparing and contrasting old school worship to new school worship was created by Darin of Jesus Piece Productions. It is a humorous but insightful look at an issue that many churches face. It points out that whichever way you choose to worship God is OK.

Is your church offering wringer washer ministry to teens and young adults? Can your church reach Generation Y, those young people who were born after 1980? What does your church offer that encourages them to want to attend your services. If we are honest with ourselves, we realize that many churches do not effectively minister to our teens and young adults.

Our young people grew up with microwave ovens, cable tv, video games and rap music. Their world moves at a different pace and their brains process things differently. Our grandparents ministry doesn’t work for them.

Just about every Saturday morning I watch Gunsmoke on TV Land. This morning Doc took Festus up on a rain check to buy him a drink. Festus, of course, was broke and said he was “flat broke, flatter than a snake through a wringer.” I told my husband, Fred, about it and we both had a good laugh. Then Fred made an observation, he said “if you tell a teenager that same thing, he won’t know what you’re talking about.” As I write this, I suppose some of you are asking what is a wringer?

This video demonstrates how a wringer washer works, but keep in mind that the wringer that Festus was talking about wasn’t electric; it was hand cranked. The wringer is the top part of the washer that is used to wring the excess water out of wet clothes. The first wringers were separate from the washer. My godmother had one that I helped with every Saturday morning. It was mounted over a tub to catch the water from the wet clothes. As you watch this video, ask yourself if this is how your church ministers to young people?
