I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. (1 Timothy 2: 1-2)

Does your church pray for all leaders?  Do you have regular prayer for the President, the Senate, the House of Representatives, your Governor, Mayor and local leaders?  Do you pray for the leaders of other nations?  During the presidential campaign did you pray for the candidate of your choice or did you ask God to give us wisdom in our choices.

About 12 years ago I began to understand the importance of intercessory prayer and how vital it is to the church and in our lives.  One day some of us were gathered together talking about prayer.  One of the people in our group started telling us about a lady at another church who, during their corporate prayer time, always prayed for our President and leaders of other countries.  Some of us laughed but for others it was a light bulb moment.

Paul said that we are to intercede for everyone – not for our own country or for political leaders that we like, but for everyone all those in authority!  There’s no getting around it.  We don’t need the Hebrew or the Greek to understand that all means all.  Please pray for “all those in authority.”
